My 6 summer essentials

The weather is finally starting to feel warmer, so I've decided to share a list of key closet items which I consider to be summer essentials.

1. the floral dress

Floral dresses can be extremely versatile; they can be worn anywhere from a casual day with friends to an evening out. Darker floral prints work especially well for occasions that are a little more formal.

2. the polo

Polos are a summer classic which I love. They're very simple and don't need much accessorizing, but also look simultaneously easy-going and put-together.

3. the denim shorts

Denim shorts are another summer classic which I love. I think they're so classic that there's really not much to say. For casual days, they can be paired with pretty much anything.

4. the short-sleeved sweater/cardigan

I can't speak for everywhere in the world, but even the hottest days in Canada can have cool evenings once the sun goes down. I love how short sleeved sweaters and cardigans are fine in the heat and can also keep you warm when things cool down.

5. the light button-up

Loose and light button-ups are perfect for formal occasions where you'll need to dress up a bit but don't want to melt in the heat. It can also add flair to a casual outfit like a tank top and shorts by being worn unbuttoned. A function I personally use is turning my swimwear into passable outfits. My go-to swimming look is a tankini and swimming shorts, so adding on a button-up makes a perfectly decent daytime look.

6. the flats

There are so many things to love about flats. They're comfortable, they're pretty, they're easy to match with different outfits, and they're perfect for summer!

The return of Christian Lacroix

Since going bankrupt in 2009, Christian Lacroix's magical work in haute couture has been greatly missed by fashion lovers. It has recently been reported that he will be making a capsule collection of couture creations for the house of Schiaparelli. Though he doesn't have plans for a permanent comeback in the fashion industry, I'm still incredibly excited for this! I want to share some of his amazing work from past couture collections.

His ready-to-wear clothes are not quite so legendary and so fantastical, but I find them equally glamourous and beautiful.

Paolo Roversi

I have always been entranced by the work of the renowned fashion photographer Paolo Roversi. The most obvious reason is that there is a wonderfully ethereal quality to his photos. Personally, I also love that he steers clear of loud and tacky images, which are so common in fashion photography. In a subtle and quiet way, his photos are beautiful, expressive, and emotive. Here are some examples I love of his work.

All set for spring

Though it's technically been spring in Canada for a couple of weeks now, it still feels like winter to me. Rather impatiently, I'm waiting for the warmer weather to actually arrive so I can shed the winter layers for a spring wardrobe. I found myself fantasizing about the types of clothes I'd like to wear so I made a few sets on Polyvore (ranging from way beyond my price range to perhaps affordable).

Clemence Poesy, the style icon

French actress Clemence Poesy is a huge style icon for me. Her outfits are feminine, soft, and have an effortless elegance that is so hard to imitate. Here are just a few of my favourite looks of hers.
