The weather is finally starting to feel warmer, so I've decided to share a list of key closet items which I consider to be summer essentials.
1. the floral dress

Floral dresses can be extremely versatile; they can be worn anywhere from a casual day with friends to an evening out. Darker floral prints work especially well for occasions that are a little more formal.
2. the polo

Polos are a summer classic which I love. They're very simple and don't need much accessorizing, but also look simultaneously easy-going and put-together.
3. the denim shorts

Denim shorts are another summer classic which I love. I think they're
so classic that there's really not much to say. For casual days, they can be paired with pretty much anything.
4. the short-sleeved sweater/cardigan

I can't speak for everywhere in the world, but even the hottest days in Canada can have cool evenings once the sun goes down. I love how short sleeved sweaters and cardigans are fine in the heat and can also keep you warm when things cool down.
5. the light button-up

Loose and light button-ups are perfect for formal occasions where you'll need to dress up a bit but don't want to melt in the heat. It can also add flair to a casual outfit like a tank top and shorts by being worn unbuttoned. A function I personally use is turning my swimwear into passable outfits. My go-to swimming look is a tankini and swimming shorts, so adding on a button-up makes a perfectly decent daytime look.
6. the flats

There are so many things to love about flats. They're comfortable, they're pretty, they're easy to match with different outfits, and they're perfect for summer!
